The AI WhatsApp workflow builder turns a plain-language description, such as "When someone sends HI, show a menu with Track order and Talk to support", into a working draft workflow with messages, buttons, and branches. In Inaiy, go to Workflows & AI, click Create Workflow, stay on Generate with AI, describe what should happen, click Generate, and confirm the plan. The draft opens in the builder, where the AI assistant can make further changes for you.

You skip dragging boxes for the first version and spend your time checking and polishing instead.

Who this is for and what you need first

This guide is for anyone who wants a WhatsApp automation without learning the builder first: shop owners, support leads, and marketers.

You need:

  • A connected WhatsApp number.
  • A clear description of the journey: how it starts, which choices the customer gets, and what happens after each choice.
  • For a deeper look at the builder itself, see WhatsApp workflow automation.

Steps to use the AI WhatsApp workflow builder

1. Describe the workflow

Click Workflows & AI, then Create Workflow. The page opens on Generate with AI (callout 1).

In What should this workflow do?, write what should happen in plain language, up to 4,000 characters. Be specific:

  • How it starts: "When a customer sends HI".
  • The menu: "show a menu with Track order, Talk to support and Store hours". Button menus become separate paths.
  • Each path: "For Track order, ask for the order number like ORD-1001 and reply with its status". Free-text questions become a wait for the customer's reply.

Not sure where to start? Click an example, such as lead qualification workflow or Create an order tracking workflow. Then click Generate (callout 2), or press Ctrl + Enter.

Stay on Generate with AI (callout 1), describe the journey, and click Generate (callout 2).

2. Answer questions and confirm the plan

If something is unclear, the AI asks a short question first, such as which team should get support chats. Pick an answer or type your own.

It then opens Confirm this workflow plan. On the left, edit the Workflow name (callout 1), What it will do, and We'll build from this description. On the right, Planned steps (callout 2) lists what it will build, from the trigger to how each path ends.

Read the steps closely. In our test, step 1 said the flow starts on ORDER although the description said HI. Fix the description if a step is wrong, then click Build this workflow. A progress card shows each stage, from Understanding request to Saving draft.

Edit the name and description (callout 1), then check the planned steps (callout 2) before building.

3. Review the draft

The draft opens in the builder, marked Draft and Saved. Properties shows how many nodes and edges were built, and the header shows any warnings. Open Validation to read them (callout 1). In our test, a message used a variable from the order lookup that does not exist yet, so it would have been sent empty.

Then check:

  • The trigger keyword (callout 2) matches what customers will send.
  • Every button leads somewhere, including Timeout and Failure exits.
  • Message text sounds like your business. AI drafts are a starting point, not final copy.

The workflow stays a Draft until you publish it, so nothing reaches customers yet.

Validation lists what to fix (callout 1). Confirm the trigger keyword (callout 2).

4. Refine it with the AI assistant

In the builder, click AI Assistant (callout 1) in the left panel, or the sparkle button on the canvas. Ask for changes in plain words, or tap a suggestion under Try (callout 2), such as Explain this workflow. or Add a fallback when the user picks an in…. Select nodes first to focus the request on them.

Before anything changes, the assistant shows AI wants to change with a list of edits. Click Apply Changes to accept, or Cancel. For large rewrites it asks you to confirm again.

Open AI Assistant (callout 1) and ask for a change, or tap a suggestion (callout 2).

5. Test and publish

Click Simulate to walk through the workflow as a dry run, with no real messages sent. Fix any warnings under Validation, then click Publish.

How to confirm it worked

  1. The new workflow appears on the Workflows & AI page as Draft, then Published after you publish it.
  2. From your own phone, send the trigger word, such as HI, to your WhatsApp number. The menu should arrive.
  3. Try every button and check each reply. Ask the AI assistant to Explain this workflow. if a path does something unexpected.

Common mistakes

  1. Vague descriptions. "Make a support bot" gives a generic draft. Name the buttons, the questions, and what happens after each one.
  2. Publishing without reading the messages. The AI writes sensible text, but it does not know your prices, hours, or policies. Read every message node before publishing.
  3. Asking for one huge change. "Rebuild everything with payments and tracking" is hard to review. Ask for one change at a time and check each preview before applying it.

Frequently asked questions

Does the AI publish the workflow automatically?

No. The AI only creates and edits drafts. A generated workflow stays in Draft until you review it and click Publish yourself. Changes from the AI assistant are also shown as a preview first, and nothing changes in the draft until you click Apply Changes.

Can the AI edit a workflow I built myself?

Yes. Open any workflow in the builder and use the AI Assistant panel. It reads the current workflow, and any nodes you select, as context. You can ask it to add a branch, change a message, add a timeout, or explain what a section does. Review the preview before applying changes.

What if the generated workflow is not what I wanted?

Use the AI assistant to adjust it step by step, edit the nodes yourself in the builder, or start again with a more detailed description. Since it is still a draft, nothing has reached customers. Delete or archive drafts you no longer need to keep the workflow list tidy.
